Earth Day 2021, which is celebrated today, is a great opportunity to review the way in which we consume, use and in particular – dispose of various kinds of products.
As a brand that considers sustainability a core company value, and invests great effort and resources in minimizing the textile environmental footprint, we encourage the fashion industry and fashion consumers to make sustainable choices, with less environmental impact. It’s important to know that the way in which we shop and care for our clothes is one of the many ways in which we can reduce our carbon footprints and protect our water sources, the earth and public health.
Here are some tips to “Green-up” your wardrobe and maintain a stylishly environmentally closet:

Love Your Clothes – It might seem like a cliché, but the simplest way to Green-up your wardrobe begins with loving what you already have and treating it with respect. Yes, by saying that we do mean no more throwing clothes on the floor or forgetting them on the bottom of the laundry pile for months. And no more ignoring their washing instructions or throwing them away because of stubborn stains. Visit the loveyourclothes initiative to learn more useful tips that will extend your clothes’ lifespan.

Buy Better Clothes – Loving your clothes begins with smarter buying. No more flimsy fabric and skimpy stitching that falls apart the minute you get home. No more buying two T-shirts because they costs only 18$. When we choose quality over quantity, we maximize the chance of getting a well-made item that will live longer.

Buy second-hand – Buying second hand and reusing clothing is a great way to reduce waste, reduce the impact on the environment – and also to save money. According to a Survey Published By Mckinsey, 50% of Gen Z and millennial shoppers expect to purchase more items secondhand after the Covid-19 crisis, since they have become even more engaged in sustainability topics . Another reason to check your local thrift stores is that the majority of clothing you may find are completely unique.

Buy sustainable fashion – Dr. Matt Johnson, professor at Hult International Business School and founder of the neuromarketing blog ‘Pop Neuro’, told business insider that “There is accumulating evidence that consumers are impacted by the perceived sustainability of a brand, and furthermore, that consumers are willing to pay a premium for products from a sustainable brand over a non-sustainable competitor brand.” This is great news for us and for all sustainable brands, and it certainly explains the increasing popularity of ethical brands, local brands and brands that define transparency as a core value for their company.

Raise Awareness – With growing awareness amongst the average consumer about how ‘fast fashion’ is harmful to workers and to the environment, fashion retailers are starting to take action, and recently some have even started their own ‘Green lines’ and joined human rights initiatives to demand rights for fashion industry workers. It is still our responsibility to ask how can it be so inexpensive, what is it made of, and who made my clothes? Visit the fashion revolution initiative to learn how you can become a more engaged consumer.

As fashion consumers it is our responsibility to ask the right questions and to find out who actually made our clothes (New post about this initiative will be publish in our blog very soon).
