Based in Berlin, Shirt-King first entered the textile print-on-demand market with a small direct-to-garment printer, which required several manual steps, including prepress and manual treatment. It quickly became apparent this routine was not conducive to growth.
“The application of pretreatment liquid is complicated, leading to many errors,” said Angelo Grodzki, their founder and managing director. “It’s very tedious, and that’s why we sought an alternative.”
For Shirt-King, inline pretreatment was a major selling point for any industrial printing system investment, which led them to Kornit.
In implementing a DTG system, Shirt-King needed a machine that was easy to use, incorporated a hassle-free workflow, and enabled them to print at the push of a button.
“With the Kornit, we only print what is ordered and we turn around orders very quickly,” said Grodzki. “It’s also a sustainable printing process, so we’re protecting the environment, as well.”
In addition to limiting output to pieces already sold, Shirt-King found the Storm Hexa increased the print quality significantly relative to their previous system, while the Storm HD6 offered savings in ink consumption, a long-term financial benefit.
Furthermore, Grodzki praised Kornit’s support in going live with the systems, noting the supplier’s training sessions prepared his staff for numerous aspects of the ownership experience.
“Our employees participated in various training courses and sessions, in which they learned how to maintain the machine, how to adjust it for optimal performance, and how to carry out small repairs if necessary,” he said. “We can now handle many of these tasks ourselves, without involving a Kornit technician.”
When technical expertise is necessary, Shirt-King finds partnership with Kornit means reliable long-term support.
“I think the cooperation with Kornit will remain close in the future, as it has been in the past, based on trust and confidence,” said Grodzki. “When there are problems, even then, we have always found good support from Kornit, and they provide the services we need quickly.”
As he continues to grow his business, Grodzki has no regrets about building his print-on-demand textile business on a platform of efficient, sustainable Kornit DTG technology.
“I can recommend Kornit to any business that wants to be active in print-on-demand. The machines are reliable, their print quality is strong, and the service department is always very good.”
