Any textile printing company looking to move into fashion and work with famous brands will need both roll-to-roll and DTG capabilities. Our recommendation for success is to buy the Kornit Atlas and Kornit Presto printers.”

Founded 9 years ago, BLUR offers its customers a wide range of machines and acquired know-how, guaranteeing excellence in textile embellishment services. The Portuguese textile specialist now works with high fashion brands including Givenchy.

Mariano Dias, CEO at Blur explains: “I began working in my father-in-law’s embroidery company, but quickly realized that digital printing was going to become an important part of the business in the future. We started with one Kornit Direct-To-Garment (DTG) system. This immediately attracted a big brand, Givenchy so we concluded that we needed to look into additional solutions and decided to invest in more Kornit printers. We currently have one Allegro, two Kornit Atlas and four Avalanche DTG printers and have recently completed our portfolio in August 2021 with a Presto S roll-to-roll system. We are looking into adding more systems by the end of the year.”

Our printers now run 24 hours a day: “We can produce all volumes from one piece to large quantities, but our main order sizes are 500 pieces. We have some brands that always print small quantities and others that are growing theirs. We also have a lot of repeat orders. Kornit’s printers give us total flexibility, and this is highly appreciated.”

As for working with Kornit, he adds: “I spent a lot of time researching the best printers on the internet and when I found Kornit, the company was just starting out. I then visited one of its customers in Italy to see the machine in action. The quality is just outstanding. Today, we have some clients who only want to print with Kornit technology because of that.”

He continues: We are also very happy with our newly acquired Kornit Presto S DTF printer and, as sustainability trends continue to grow, we could even consider purchasing a second one soon. From 9.30am to 6pm, it is working on samples. There are lots of stops when you are making samples, so this needs to be carried out during the day. From 6pm and throughout the night, it is in production.”

It is essential to remain responsive to the needs of our clients. He adds: “It is difficult to anticipate what will happen in six months’ time, especially as the fashion world changes very fast. Three years ago, clients started to look into mixed techniques. Print and embroidery, print and transfer. Sometimes, it is difficult to find a new technology that brings excitement to the market.”

“There is also a higher demand for smaller quantities and more creative and flexible designs from high fashion customers. Collections tend to change before and after the shows. Some brands need bigger orders as they have many stores whilst others have less stores so need smaller quantities. Different types of designs are sometimes requested for stores in the US and Europe as well.”

He concludes: “We have an excellent working relationship with Kornit. The service is very reliable, and we can easily get spare parts when we need them. Kornit has also made some great technology improvements and product developments recently. I saw some amazing quality samples produced on the Kornit Atlas MAX and the new NeoPigment™ Robusto Softener is also a real improvement for the Presto S.”

“We are extremely happy with Kornit’s collaboration, and our printers are working perfectly around the clock.
