SS 25 FASHION WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

In September, we got to witness an impressive showcase from all the top fashion houses and designers out there. While fashion weeks always carry a unique signature for each designer or creative director, there’s usually a common thread that ties them together. This often comes from the fact that we’re all exposed to the same media and cultural moments that find their way into fashion, art, interior design, and more.

This year’s shows gave us a fresh look at bold colors, daring prints, and creative playing around with shapes and cuts—new ideas aimed at surprising us, the consumers. This season brought plenty of challenges, which were clearly reflected on the runway: maximalism, extravagance, and lots of drama, all highlighting the chaos and disorder in the world today.

In Full Bloom

We’ve covered the floral trend before , and it keeps evolving every season. These days, you’ll spot it mostly in men’s fashion (but not exclusively), as part of a new, softer masculine image. It’s the opposite of the tough, macho vibe that dominated the runways in recent years.

FaceTime

At the Balmain show, we saw plenty of elements featuring faces and body parts like hands, arms, and fingers. While it might feel like a continuation of their previous collection, this season definitely takes it to the next level—bolder, more maximalist, and packed with even more drama.

Cosmic Feeling

Given the current state of the world, with all the chaos from natural disasters and wars, it was surprising to see both Louis Vuitton and Abra present collections filled with intergalactic, almost dystopian prints on one hand, and calming, local landscapes on the other.

Loud Luxury

There’s been a lot of talk about “quiet luxury” taking over the wardrobes of those who can afford it. Ever since Succession’s final season came into our lives, this trend has been in full swing. But a year later, it seems like quiet luxury is on its last fumes, and now it’s maximalism’s time to shine on the runways. This shift could be due to a general feeling of fatigue and a desire to seize the moment, given how fragile and uncertain everything feels. We saw this trend in Abra’s show, where they featured branded accessories with the Cartier logo, and even clothing items.  It’s still hard to determine if this trend is a way to show the grotesqueness behind the logo worship or a way to acceptance of this status, one thing is cerain it’s gaining momentum and is here to stay at least for the upcoming season.

Agent of Chaos

You can’t ignore the heavy feelings we’re all carrying, making it seem like everything is falling apart and more chaotic than ever. Inflation is spiraling, wars are ongoing, assassination attempts on former presidents, scandals resurfacing—this all finds its way to the runways, creating a mood that’s dark, chaotic, and full of drama.

As mentioned earlier, global moods and zeitgeists tend to have big influence on us all. Trends, feelings, and thoughts find their expressive outlet in visual mediums as default, and fashion has always been the space where this is fully realized and expressed, since it has no limits to it. This is why we often see our collective feelings, fears, and drama come alive and form into a trend on the runway in a bold and unapologetic way, sometimes making us feel uncomfortable, and other times offering us comfort. Either way, SS25 is going to be all about maximalism and a touch of comfort, so you better brace yourself- it’s going to be a chaotic ride.
